Inspired events with a beachside backdrop: Peppers Soul

Peppers Soul boasts a luxurious conference and event setting leaving no detail compromised. The modern spaces rise 77 levels above the world-famous Surfers Paradise coastline, providing breathtaking views and a refined beachside ambience.

With the Pacific Ocean as a spectacular backdrop, there is a selection of enchanting spaces far from your typical conferencing rooms.  The landscaped Secret Garden, Beach View Deck, Sub-Penthouse Apartments or premier, hatted dining icon, Seaduction Restaurant + Bar make for truly unique settings.

From themed outdoor breakout sessions and personal touches with place settings, to elegant sub-penthouse affairs, Brodie Laurie-Rhodes, Event Manager at Peppers Soul, takes on any challenge to deliver unforgettable events at this ultimate Gold Coast venue.

We talk to Brodie to discover the latest trends within the industry, inspiring concepts and unique experiences that she has created for clients at Peppers Soul.

Brodie, tell us about your career to date. Why did you decide to pursue this career?

I started working in cocktail bars while still in high school which led to management roles by the age of 20. I went on to manage an array of venues from bars and nightclubs to restaurant and banquet centres. Through all of these venues I always found myself drawn towards the events component. I love how rewarding it is to see the final product come together.

Tell us about some of the most unique or creative events you've worked on?

I believe every event has a unique or creative element of its own. A specific event that comes to mind is an event we held here at Peppers Soul last year for the Mantra Group Management Team. It was what seemed to be a simple 2 day conference however each break (morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea) was designed to be an experience. From health themed picnic lunches in our Secret Garden paired with a relaxing and rejuvenating yoga break, to a Provedore themed food trail through our wine room. We were able to take the delegates through a different world making the most of the short time between demanding conference sessions.

What do you think are the hot new trends in conferences and events right now?

Exploring spaces outside of ballrooms and introducing social media interaction. For example, event hashtags on photos that will connect the delegates or guests during and post the event

If a company or a celebrity decided today, "I want to host a big event" what would be the first step you suggest the client take?

Identifying the events’ goal and focus is the first step. Ask yourself- what is the purpose of this event? What do I want my guests or delegates to get from this?

Are there any things that can help guarantee the success of an event?

Always have a plan B. Generally speaking you won’t ever have to use a plan B however sometimes things happen that are simply out of your control. Identify potential hurdles ahead of time so you are prepared for anything the day may throw at you.

What are the most important things to remember on the day of the event?

To enjoy it. The planning process can take weeks, months or even years depending on the event. The day or days of the event only come around once. Be confident that you have done all you can and make the most of your hard work by enjoying the day.

Tell us about your hotel and its event space. What makes it unique?

We have a number of event spaces here at Peppers Soul:

  • Seaduction Restaurant + Bar- our two Hatted fine dining restaurant with uninterrupted ocean views
  • Waterline Room- our pillar-less conference room for up to 90 delegates in a classroom style
  • Reflections Room - our sophisticated board room featuring natural light, ideal for up to 20 delegates on the unique hollow round table
  • Beach View Deck- with views stretching over prime Surfers Paradise beachfront, ideal for a poolside cocktail party
  • The Secret Garden- perfect for a sophisticated cocktail style function, team building space or conference lunch break

What are some of the unique experiences you can arrange at your property for C&I events?

If you’re looking for something with that “wow” factor, holding an event in one of our Sub-Penthouse Apartments is the ultimate in luxury. They are suitable for intimate dinners of up to 20 guests to cocktail functions and VIP board meetings. The uninterrupted ocean and coastal views from the 63rd and 64th floor is sure to delight and impress.

What is your recipe for spicing up a conference at your property?

Holding lunch breaks in one of our outdoor areas is a great way to break up the day. It also rejuvenates and refocuses delegates.

Another thing we like to offer is a unique amenities set for each person. This could be a healthy theme where each person gets nuts, dried fruit and a protein ball with their place setting or something a little more fun like a fondue or lolly station.

Don’t have time for a farewell function? Mix it up with beverages discreetly served in the afternoon session of your last day of conferencing.
